PLANNING YOUR MUSIC VIDEO



DEADLINE: END OF OCTOBER

  1. PLANNING:  TARGET AUDIENCE RESEARCH You could do a mind map, a questionnaire, a poster like we did last year. Discuss all three products not just your video.
  2. PLANNING:   LYRICS ANALYSIS Post the lyrics for your song on your blog plus your analysis of mood, representation of the artist, initial ideas for treatment.
  3. PLANNING: HOW MY BAND DEVELOPED ITS STAR BRAND
  4. PLANNING: EDITING TECHNIQUES Find examples of similar editing styles or transitions that you plan to use. Video + text? 
  5. PLANNING: MOOD BOARD - create a mood board that reflects your overall approach.
  6. PLANNING:AMATEUR v. PROFESSIONAL Analyse the way your student video has been inspired by a professional music video. Explain what you are planning. Perhaps use side-by-side still shots for this?
  7. PLANNING: PERMISSION TO USE TRACK Contact the original artist. Show that you have attempted to seek permission from the artist to use their song (e.g. via Facebook, Twitter, letter, email) 
  8. PLANNING:TEST FOOTAGE  Upload experiments with shot types, editing techniques, rushes. Explain what you were trying to achieve. 
  9. PLANNING: TREATMENT
  10. PLANNING:LOCATION REPORTS Street map images or still photo images, information about the location and why it is suitable
  11. PLANNING: TIMELINE
  12. PLANNING: STORYBOARD
  13. PLANNING: SHOTLISTS 
  14. PLANNING: CALL SHEETS FOR EACH SCENE Upload images to the blog with a description of what they are and how they will help you.
  15. Look at other student / professional blogs each week. What inspiration can you take from them? Why do you think their blog is successful?

These are minimum guidelines. You should use your imagination to create other posts.
