EVALUATION q.1

Today we work on Evaluation question 1 in class.  At this stage, you are scripting your commentary, so you can add references. Use the Harvard reference system. Post on your blog!

Evaluation q.1 will eventually be your full music video with 'picture in picture' commentary on music video codes and conventions. To prepare the script that you will deliver, analyse your music video using the guidelines set out on the blog before half term. 

• We start by trying to identify exactly the relationship between your music video treatment and the lyrics (Andrew Goodwin 1993 Dancing In The Distraction Factory)
• We try to identify your singer's grain of voice (Roland Barthes)
• We look at the role of the video in promoting the singer or band (Richard Dyer 1979 Stars)
• We look at how narrative is handled (Heidi Peters  article on image and narrative (semiotics) here) 2004 The Semiotics of Music Videos: It Must Be Written in the Stars
