G325 YOUR NARRATIVE

I introduce the BFI's Film Academies for young people and urge you to consider applying if you are serious about media-related university courses. there are two types, one craft based (that is, learning to make films) and the other industry based, that is, learning about the film industry and its audiences.THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS TO THE INDUSTRY BASED COURSE IS TODAY June 30th. One good reason to check your Twitter is to keep abreast of what's on offer!

To start, create 2 pages on your blog, one entitled G325 Sec.A a) and the other G325 Sec.A b)

Post last week's work on Audience here and this week's work on Narrative here.

In the second half of Section 1, one of the topic headings is Narrative. Today you are going to analyse your own thriller film opening in an objective way, drawing on theoretical frameworks.

On your blog, answer the following questions in essay format. Each question will need a good paragraph to answer.
What kind of narrative made up your thriller film opening? Start with a succinct but sufficiently precise resume of your film and its genre: "My AS production was a ...." Remember that the examiner will NOT have seen it so you have to 'paint with words'.

In today's session we look at three narrative frameworks and discuss the ways in which they apply to your own work: Todorov, Propp and Levi-Strauss. You can see an overview on the MediaKnowall site here and here.

We look at OCR's exemplar answer and discuss it: read page 42 here.
