As Cold was developed by Ryerson University Media Department and released online on Vimeo and YouTube, it first appeared that there was no print poster. Persistence eventually turned up one film poster on the film's official Twitter page.
The film describes itself in this way:
"COLD" is an Independent Short Film by Perspective Pictures.
Produced as part of Ryerson University's (Canada) RTA School of Media.
Textual Analysis of Cold Film Poster:
In a city notorious for being cold to strangers, several lives intersect one night, oblivious to the loneliness that connects them all.
This description of the short film, which appears on its Twitter page, emphasizes the frostiness of its communities which do not make connections readily despite the near universal loneliness afflicting everyone. The colour blue predominates, in order to convey the emotional barrenness of community life. The 'noise' of the water marks in the top right hand corner cleverly suggests that the very poster itself has been subjected to rain or snow, underpinning the damp, cold quality of the mise-en-scene.The time of day, early evening when the light is fading and people leave work to face lonely evenings at home, draws attention to how isolated and 'cold' their lives are.
Cold's Twitter page attracted and addressed a relatively small audience of under 300. |
Normally, teaser trailers precede main trailers and are shorter |
Clearly, an online presence is as powerful as a poster in distributing the short film, building a sense of community in its invitations to retweet |
