G325 Critical Perspectives B
CHECKLIST POST HALFTERM
G325: We spend Tuesday 20 February on Media Regulation.
- To start, we revise the rubric: cover at least 3 media platforms; integrate historical examples and the future; connect contemporary media theories; use accurate terminology
- I have made a copy of the content guidance and the mark scheme for each of you plus the annotations that the examiner uses to mark your work.
- Note the weighting: 20 marks for explanation, analysis, argument; 20 marks for use of examples (historical, future, theory integrated); 10 marks for terminology.
- We continue the PowerPoint that you all have plus additional case studies and video clips.
- We rehearse the central points of the arguments about media regulation, such as how different media industries are currently regulated, paying particular attention to the challenges of regulating the internet and why it can be seen as a lawless wild west.
- We consolidate our study of Henry Jenkins and participatory culture via his studies at MIT, noting that he places emphasis on the positive aspects of participatory culture such as 'How “Dumbledore’s Army” Is Transforming Our World'
- I draw your attention to Peter Jukes who gave the Keynote address to the OCR annual AL conference. Weebly 2015 link here. Peter Jukes is a British writer and
journalist, nominated for several awards for crowd funding his live
Twitter coverage of all 130 days of the phone hacking trial. He details
his experience, and the backstage drama of the most expensive and
longest running completed criminal trial in British history, Beyond Contempt. His previous 2012 book, The Fall of the House of Murdoch, was described by the former Sunday Times editor Sir Harold Evans as “a roaring great read.”
G324: coursework DEADLINE FRIDAY 24 MARCH IN THE LESSON
- Your Ancillaries should have been finished over half term (poster and magazine cover)
- In the lesson I remind you of how to present 'feedback' for Evaluation question 3. This was first raised a month ago, so that you have visual evidence of 'before and after' shots. We look at previous students' work as a model, such as this, this, this and this.
- We will all use YuDu to present Feedback. As you build up the evidence, post it under the page for Evaluation question 3, so that I be assured that you are building it up. Feedback is required for all 3 productions.
- Please complete Evaluation question 4 by next Friday 3 March. HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES? Include screenshots of your work and embedded hyperlinks to the examples in your own work to which you refer.
