Yesterday we ended on the positive note that websites for the collective expression of British Asian identity at MELAS throughout the country allowed over 80,000 members of diasporic communities to gather and celebrate their cultural identities through sharing music, dance, food, sport and film. One example is the London Mela, supported by BBC Radio Asian Network (see the central flower image on the online poster).

In The Times newspaper in 2010, when the BBC radio Asian Network was threatened with closure, the influential British Asian journalist Sathnam Sanghera argued that it would not be missed as it could not be the voice for such a diverse community, as there was no such thing as one British Asian collective identity, before bemoaning how very limited is the representation of British Asians on national television (see below).
